Full context:   Greek philosophy sought to render account of movement and of multiplicity in the phenomenal world -- to examine "agitation" as it would be called in Chinese thought, or "exteriority" in Hindu metaphysics -- but it also turned its attention to the origin of the phenomenal world, through the concepts of Principle (Heraclitus, Zeno of Cittium), Model (Pythagoras, Plato), Foundation (Parmenides, Aristotle), and Cause (Democritus, Epicurus). These archetypal forms of beginning were crystallized in the four great currents of Greek thought, which have steered the destiny of Occidental philosophy for two millenia.
